The MIDI sidechain input also allows musicians to process material in key and even play the device as if it were a polyphonic instrument. Use the algorithmic side to add control and modulate the reverb tail, run it in parallel or in series with the convolution side, or play Hybrid Reverb like an instrument for real-time sound design.īreaks the spectrum of an incoming audio signal into partials, then stretches, shifts and blurs the result by a frequency or a note in subtle or radical ways. Place your sounds in any space, from accurate real-life environments to those that defy physical reality. Hybrid Reverb combines convolution and algorithmic reverbs. The new expressive possibilities also enable polyphonic aftertouch on Push. And Live comes with MPE presets for each device that bring new dimensions of interaction and playability to your sound. Wavetable, Sampler and Arpeggiator are all updated to support MPE. Or take your sound design further by sequencing polyphonic sound variations. This way of using MIDI allows MPE-capable devices to control multiple parameters of every note in real time for more expressive instrumental performances.Įdit the pitch, slide and pressure envelopes of each note to refine the expression of your takes. MPE stands for MIDI Polyphonic Expression. Add subtle expression variations, morph between chords and create evolving sonic textures. Plug in your MPE-capable controller and immediately add bends, slides and pressure for each individual note in a chord. This makes editing multi-tracked instruments or of performances with multiple musicians easy and fast whilst keeping everything in time across tracks. Link two or more tracks to edit their content simultaneously. Or approach sound design in a new way by splicing together random samples from your library. Pick the best moments of each performance and combine them to create your perfect take. Live organizes multiple passes of an audio or MIDI performance into individual takes. Ableton 11 is still in Beta so. We are super excited about Comping, the new Hybrid Reverb and the Spectral Resonator. In this video we will try to explain and demonstrate all the new exciting features of Ableton Live 11. Keyless entry and ignition (automatic transmission only).Body-colored fender flares and rear bumper.Because it's powered by the V6, all non-optional features listed above designated "V6 only" are standard here. Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the Toyota and the car in front).Lane departure warning (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane).Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios). The base Tacoma also comes with a suite of driving aids that include: Dual-zone automatic climate control (V6 only).Locking/unlocking vehicle remote (V6 only can be added to four-cylinder models via Convenience package).Tough composite bed that needs no bedliner.Power-adjustable and heated side mirrors. The SR is the work truck of the bunch and kicks things off with: Rear-wheel drive is standard on most trims, with part-time four-wheel drive (with a low-range transfer case) an option. Other choices include an extended cab (Access Cab) configuration with a 6.1-foot bed or a crew cab (Double Cab) with a 5- or 6.1-foot bed. Find out what we thought of everything from its all-around capability to the tech in our long-term Tacoma test. The Tacoma has received some updates since its redesign in 2016, but it's the same generation truck and most of our observations apply. We bought a 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road and lived with it in our long-term fleet for nearly two years, racking up more than 40,000 miles on the odometer. For a thorough review, check out our test team's evaluation of the Tacoma in the Edmunds' Expert Rating below. That said, if you're in the market for a midsize truck and can't wait for the next one, the current highly rated Tacoma is still a compelling choice. To stay competitive there will be a new Tacoma soon, but we'll have to keep waiting. Unlike the Tacoma, the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks will be redesigned for 2023, and the Nissan Frontier was just overhauled for 2022. These include a larger touchscreen, keyless entry and a power driver's seat. Other changes amount to increased availability of a few minor features. The only additions include two appearance packages that dress up the SR5 trim with either black or chrome embellishments. Rumors of a fully redesigned Tacoma for 2023 have proven untrue, so it continues in much the same form as last year. All the blenders in the MultiQuick 9 line are functionally the same, with different accessories. The MultiQuick 9 has variable speeds as well once you select a high, low, or pulse setting, but since its button sits flatter on the machine and isn’t curved to your finger as on the MultiQuick 7, we found controlling the speeds less comfortable and intuitive on this model. Though Braun has videos showing how to use the iMode technology to select speeds, we found ourselves using two hands to operate this blender (both to unlock it and to select the speeds). The manual says that you have two seconds between pressing the lock button and choosing your speed, and to us it felt stressful to have to move that quickly. The main difference between the MultiQuick 9 and the MultiQuick 7 is that the MultiQuick 9 has a safety feature that locks the blender if you stop using it for a few seconds. This blender achieved results similar to what we saw from the other Braun models, but we didn’t think its extra features were as useful as those of our picks. We tested the new Braun MultiQuick 9 Hand Blender MQ9137XI in 2021. In 2021, we repeated the soup and smoothie tests. As with the soup, we strained the smoothies after blending. Although we recognize that many immersion blender manufacturers don’t recommend using their blenders to pulverize frozen ingredients or ice, we know that many smoothie recipes call for ice and frozen fruit, and that some people like to make smoothies with their immersion blenders. We also made smoothies with kale, frozen strawberries, a few ice cubes, orange juice, and yogurt in each blending cup (or in a Pyrex 4-quart glass measure for models that didn’t come with a cup). Again, we pureed large batches of soup consisting of fibrous root vegetables, ginger, and almond directly in a 6-quart pot, straining the results to look for any unblended bits. For our 2018 update, we decided to test each blender for exactly four minutes, after noting that most of the models in our lineup took around that long to produce a smooth-looking pot of soup. We timed how long it took, and then we strained the results to see if the blender left behind any chunks. In previous tests, we started by pureeing a full pot of root-vegetable soup until it looked smooth (which is how most people use their immersion blender at home). Searching for treatments, I came across a number of sites including WebMD and a couple science journals (as well as plenty of health blogs nobody would consider reliable sources) stating that caffeine could be the cause of arthritic, tendon and joint pain such as osteoarthritis. Enter frantic self-diagnosis mode via WebMD-everyone's favorite form of science you can mock and thus attempt to destroy an argument you don't like, but wait: this was way too coincidental.*įUCK! Do I have that? Cartilage deteriorating in my joints? Probably. I figured I must have banged it during yoga because I had a bone spur on the front of my tibia. Same with my right knee, which seemed to be getting worse. I thought it was a yoga injury, but I couldn't figure out how. Toes - one day, my big toe just started to hurt. Lower back pain - yoga is the only thing that helped this, and the rest of my pains, actually - but with the increasing joint pains, yoga became impossible to do. I kept trying to change my sitting position so that my wrists and elbows wouldn't be in the same position too long, but this didn't really help. Wrist and elbow pain - kept getting worse and this I blamed at my desk-based computer job. Knee pain - kept getting worse, even though I was not running, playing basketball or anything like that.Īnkle pain - same as knee pain, kept getting worse despite lack of high-impact activity. The first moments walking were very painful, thus the first thing I did was step out of bed carefully and immediately start stretching by leaning against the wall. Every morning if I didn't stretch my feet first thing, my hamstring and heel would be quite sore for most of the day. "Plantar Fasciitis" - I even bought night braces for this. I couldn't stand for long periods of time at all, couldn't walk for very long at all hell, my feet hurt just sitting on the couch or laying in bed. I bought 8 pairs of shoes in the last 2 years trying to find anything that seemed to help my feet. Within a week, all my pain was gone, even the caffeine withdrawal headaches I had at the beginning of the week. I read about this and, having struggled with what I thought was plantar fasciitis for the last 2 years as well as an increasing number of pains throughout my body, decided to stop eating chocolate and drinking coffee. I know you are all familiar with the research that pops up constantly on your Facebook feed, Reddit, and everywhere else which says it's good for your heart, good for your liver, good for longevity, good for your brain, good for your eyesight, and anything else they can dream up, but there are also studies that have shown it may be causing you incredible pain. I know this is an incredibly unpopular thing to say because coffee is so ubiquitous and seemingly benign, who but a crazy Seventh Day Adventist would suggest it might be the cause of various muscle & joint pains? Well, scientific research, actually. That costs the $21/month – on top of the Abobe Creative Cloud monthly license cost. Those who have used other Pantone color books (palettes) must purchase a Pantone license via a Pantone Connect plug-in, according to this Adobe document. The Adobe document (see screenshot above) says, that from the the previously integrated Pantone color palettes, only "Pantone + CMYK coated", "Pantone + CMYK uncoated" and "Pantone + metallic coated" remain. Pantone charges users a fee of $21 per month for these colors. From late October / early November 2022 when opening PSD image files with Adobe Photoshop some of the colors of Pantone converted to black. There is a licensing dispute between Aobe and Pantone, and the companies could not agree, according to German Wikipedia. I then came across an explanation from the colleagues at German site heise. Users who then click on Learn more are probably informed about the need for a subscription. The reason Adobe gives is that Pantone licenses have changed. The Pantone colors have been removed and replaced with black. Users are shown a prominent notice when opening such files that there is a change. You need a subscription of 21 US dollars per month to display the Pantone colors correctly again. In the linked tweet someone writes that when you open Adobe Designer an existing PSD file with Pantone colors, they are displayed in black. I had already seen it in a tweet at the end of October 2022, but could ad hoc not figure out the implications. Seemingly mysterious at first, once you begin working with wood an addiction takes over. Here is a brief wood primer for the woodcut printmaker.Ī couple of reference books on wood species and suitability of wood for various crafts (I have added these and others to my BookStore page on this blog): You will want to carve it and stain it and sand it and plane it and collect different species. Understanding Wood: A Craftsman's Guide to Wood TechnologyĪbout Wood Sources and Resources You can get wood for printmakers from: The Encyclopedia Of Wood: A Tree-By-Tree Guide To The World's Most Versatile Resource The expensive but tried and true, most printmaking suppliers will have some sort of wood designed and milled specifically for woodcuts. You can get wood that is ready to cut out of the box but I still go through my ritual outlined below.Ĭheck the Links Page on this blog for these and other resources. The less expensive for the adventurous, your friendly local home-supply store and, of course any lumberyard or building supplies warehouse in your town. The best woods for printmakers can be found in their Hobby or Woodcraft sections.ĭedicated wood suppliers on the web make up the third bunch. They usually supply cabinet makers, wood carving enthusiasts and other assorted wood hobbiers. Others are simply online lumberyards that retail sell and ship small quantities of wood. Search the web for "lumber." This by far is the cheapest way to go if you can buy quantities. On any of the three above, remember that wood is heavy and sometimes the shipping will be quite expensive so I always buy bulk and store in my desert studio at a comfy 6% humidity or less. Regardless of what wood I'm about to lay my hands on, I follow pretty much the same procedures. Caring and preparing the blocks helps me get to know that particular block ahead of time, and helps me in the thinking process for that particular print. I start by cleaning the block, many times they come dirty from the lumberyard. A dusting with a soft nylon brush does the trick. Inspection follows, I am particularly looking for out of plane blocks, warped blocks, low spots, cracks and knots. I've never met a piece of wood I couldn't use, just takes adjusting the print sometimes.Ī good sanding helps irregularities and fills in the grain of birch and pine. I begin with 220 grit wet/dry sandpaper (100 if the block shows saw marks or is very irregular). I use a sanding block, the hard rubber kind and change my paper often, keeping a graphics brush handy to get rid of the surface dust.ģ20, 400, 600 and sometimes 1200 follow in sequence. By the time you get to the finest grits, your woodblock is shining and slick like glass. Most times I stop at 400 to allow some of the grain to show in the print. Continue doing this until you place the planks on the middle of the bridge as shown in the screenshot below: Again move to the second plank and pick the plank behind it. Now place the first plank in front of the second plank. Move to the second plank, turn around and pick the first plank. Here’s the solution:īack on ground you will see a broken bridge with only two wooden planks on it. In Creepy Tale, the bridge puzzle is a bit tricky. Jump off the topmost leaf to reach the ground. Keep jumping from one leaf to another until you reach the top of the climber. Now jump from one leaf to the other and do this quickly before the creature catches you. Walk over the mushroom to crush it and its fumes will stimulate the vine. Move close to the dead vine and press the “X” button to place the purple mushroom next to it. You will see a giant climbing vine at the end of the underground cave. Jump over the sleeping creature and pick all purple mushrooms on your way. You will wake him up if you run over the mushrooms, so make sure you pick all mushrooms on your way. Carefully pick the glowing purple mushroom next to him. On the right side of the cave, a creature is in deep slumber. Since the wooden log is in the middle of the spiky trap, you will have to jump off the log to land on the ground. Make sure you drop on top of the wooden log. It will fall on top of a spiky trap.Ĭarefully descend the underground cave. The log will fall down revealing a big underground cave. Push the wooden log towards the covered ditch. Jump across the ditch and move behind the wooden log. Outside the cabin, continue walking until you find a ditch covered with dried leaves. Use the key to open the backdoor and escape from the cabin. Jump to stand on the stool and take that back door key. Hold the stool (use interaction button to hold it) and drag it next to the key hanging on the wall. Now move next to the broken stool and fix it by attaching the bone as the third leg. Move closer to the front door and take the bone used as a bolt to close the front door. You will have to find the exit to the shack through the back door. Once the creature falls asleep, move out of the chest. You will have to shut close the chest completely to hide from the monster. Make sure you close it by pressing the Y button (interaction). Inside the cabin, quickly hide in the chest before the monster is back at the shack. Looking for more horror game walkthroughs? Check out our The Girl in the Window walkthrough and guide. The monster opens the door and walks towards the tree stump to pick and eat the mushroom. Knock the door and quickly move next to the window so that the monster does not spot you. Now move close to the tree stump near the cabin and place the mushroom on it. Move closer to the mushrooms dropped on the ground and pick one. While watching all this, you dropped the mushrooms. You will see two weird monsters – one grabbing him and another placing a thick ring around his neck, putting your brother in a state of trance. Move to the empty cabin’s window to peek through it. Your brother starts chasing it until he follows the butterfly to a seemingly empty cabin. When you and your brother are collecting mushrooms, a butterfly appears from nowhere. In some regions of Mexico sand sculptures or tapestries (“tapetes de arena”) are a vital part of the celebration. Some say that the four elements are represented with different items at the altar and the movement of the “papel picado” represents air. During the “Día de los Muertos” celebration it is placed around the edges of the altar, which adds color to the table. Indigenous communities use the different types of copal to cure headaches diseases caused by cold or humidity stomach, toothache, and uterine pain, burns, fever, and breathing problems.ĭecoratively cut paper used in Mexico for all holidays and fiestas. The scent of copal is believed to be therapeutic. It is placed in the offerings of the Day of the Dead as a purifier of the environment, which allows the spirits of our loved ones to enter the homes without risk. They also used it in various energy cleansing ceremonies, such as temazcales, and to make protective or purifying remedies and incense. In this ritual, the copal was offered to the four cardinal points and to the Sun to guarantee the protection of the people and gratitude for the crops. Pre-Hispanic civilizations such as that of the Aztecs and Mayans placed it in a clay incense burner as food for the Gods. The rising smoke takes the prayers to the heavens and the gods. It symbolizes the transformation from the physical, the tree, to the supernatural, the perfumed smoke. Copalli incense comes from the copal tree. The word copal comes from the Náhuatl word “copalli” which means, “incense”. They are also thought to guide the spirits thanks to their potent and fresh scent.Ĭopal incense was burned in Mesoamerica in ancient times and is still burned for special ceremonies and is often placed on or near Day of the Dead altars as another olfactory element to draw in the spirits. You can find them in orange and purple, representing the earth and grief, respectively. This flower, used since ancient times for its medicinal properties, brings a unique color to the shrine that makes the spirits feel joyful and peaceful. It grows plentifully at this time of year in Mexico and its pungent odor is said to attract the spirits who come to visit their mortal loved ones on this day. (“Flor de Muerto”): Is a flower used in Day of the Dead altars and to decorate graves. With more elaborate ofrendas, you can find up to seven levels. The most common ones have three levels, which represent heaven, earth, and the underworld. In some regions, you can find a flat surface with all the elements on it, while in others you can find several levels. Every state in Mexico has its own particular way of setting up their ofrendas. Candles are often left in the form of a cross to represent the cardinal directions, so the spirits can find their way. Earth is represented by food, especially bread. Papel picado, or traditional paper banners, represent the wind. Water is left in a pitcher so the spirits can quench their thirst. Every ofrenda also includes the four elements: water, wind, earth and fire. Many people make altars or “ofrendas” (offerings) in their homes to honor their loved ones who have died. From Monarch Butterflies to native Copalli incense to Cempasúchitl – learn about many of the imagery, symbols, and traditions… Some traditions are rooted in ancient meso-American traditions, some came from Spanish/European cultural traditions, and some have evolved over the 3,000+ years of celebrations.
